Habilitation Services: Sea Lab

The SEA LAB (Sensory and Environmental Awareness Lab) is a valuable tool in promoting relaxation which aides in the reduction of aggressive and self-abusive behaviors. Through sensory technology, various developmental skills are addressed, including those which foster reaching, tracking, conceptual and pre-verbal skills, personal interaction and turn taking. Sensory programming includes low-vision activities as well as activities that address, auditory, gustatory, olfactory and tactile discrimination. Additionally, sensory integration issues are addressed in the realms of proprioceptive, vestibular and tactile deficits. (A more detailed description of sensory integration programming is available upon request).
Habilitation Services provides formal daily lessons, tailored to each population in the program. These groups range from the severely mentally challenged to the severely physically challenged. The plans address such areas as prevocational training, adult daily living skills, self-care, socialization, survival academics, the arts, history and geography, psychology and sociology, current events and legislation affecting people with disabilities. Other activities include a book club and cooking classes.
