Habilitation Services: Sensations
Sensations comes complete with a variety of light and color effects, sounds and music, objects and
textures that can be customized to each participants interest and needs. Our staff can guide sensory integrative activities or can follow the specific plans designed by your physical, speech, or occupational therapist.
Everyone is familiar with the senses of sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell, but many are not aware that our bodies have internal senses. These are called
vestibular, which effects motor-planning and proprioceptive senses. The colorful objects and lights stimulate the primary senses as well as the proprioceptive, by encouraging
reaching, stretching and grasping, while the air-mattress floor and rocker stimulate the vestibular system with balance and movement. This gentle stimulation of the senses occurs naturally, with out pressure, at the
participants pace.
Our mobile unit can turn any space into a snoezelen environment !
Snoezelen environments are safe and non-threatening spaces where children and adults with challenging conditions can enjoy the gentle stimulation of the senses. There is no need for
intellectual reasoning. Participants
experience self-control, autonomous discovery and exploration
achievements that overcome
inhibitions, enhance self-esteem and reduce tension. Free from the
expectations of others and the
pressures of directed care, they can
explore, recuperate and relax.
